As Angel MedFlight crews were landing in southeastern Florida late Thursday morning, Hurricane Irene was looming just off the coast.
Our medical crews captured these ominous photos as they approached Boca Raton, Fla.
“Despite the looks of things, the flight was very smooth,” says Angel MedFlight critical care flight paramedic Darren Thenell.
The first Atlantic Ocean hurricane of the season has already demolished homes, downed power lines and taken lives in the southern Bahamas, and it continues to roar toward the East Coast.
Residents in the Mid-Atlantic and northeastern states are bracing themselves for Irene’s brute force and 110-mile-per-hour winds. U.S. landfall is anticipated this weekend.
